Our story

Since 1988, Calypso Hut has been more than just a restaurant — it has been a home built on love, family, and community. Founded by Peter Pitamber alongside his two brothers, the journey began when Peter migrated from Guyana to Canada, bringing his family with him and introducing his cherished recipes to a new community. His entrepreneurial spirit and passion for hospitality became the foundation of the Calypso Hut legacy.

Over the years, Peter and his brothers went on to create other beloved ventures such as Sheppard Station and The Croissant Tree, but Calypso Hut remained the true heart of the brand — a community hub where people of all backgrounds could gather, share a meal, and feel at home.

Though Peter, Seeta, and Terry have passed on, their vision continues to live through Peter’s son, Jerry, who remains an active member of the community and the driving force behind the Calypso Hut family today.

As a family-run business, Calypso Hut has always been guided by love. Love for great food, for our team, and for the communities we serve. We pride ourselves on operational excellence and long-term stability, values that have allowed us to thrive for over three decades.
